Hong Kong’s first Community Living Room for young children’s development
The Community Living Room is a multi-use area for our community: a spacious activity space for low-income residents in the Sham Shui Po district; a recharge area for caregivers; a playhouse for young children; and a place to mingle for the elderly. Instead of creating a “service centre” where child caregivers have “cases,” we provide a relaxing environment where caregivers can engage with their peers and our professional staff. The Living Room is also a place that brings together those in the community to support vulnerable children and their families with a safe, comfortable environment and social resources.
The Living Room focuses on underprivileged families with children aged between 0 and 6 suffering from an ongoing lack of social support and limited physical space. By maintaining good health and providing adequate nutrition, responsive caregiving and opportunities for early learning in a safe, nurturing environment, we hope to (1) empower caregivers with proven childcare knowledge and physical & mental health support; (2) establish a harmonious family with a closer parent-child relationship; and (3) connect with the community by creating caregivers mutual support network.
